Former Tennessee Vols RHP Blade Tidwell gets great news
Gary Cosby Jr. / USA TODAY NETWORK

Former Tennessee Vols right handed pitcher Blade Tidwell learned on Sunday that his baseball career is taking its next step.

Tidwell, a prospect in the New York Mets farm system, received a promotion to Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday, according to The Athletic's Will Sammon.

The former Vol, who was selected by the Mets in the second round of the 2022 MLB Draft, made eight starts for Double-A Binghamton last season, recording an ERA of 4.72.

Tidwell, as Sammon noted, added a cutter to his arsenal this offseason which helped his 2024 season get off to a hot start (cutting down on walks has also helped Tidwell's season get off to a better start).

The Mets would love for Tidwell to be able to help the team sooner rather than later due to the team's lack of starting pitching depth.

If Tidwell can get off to a hot start in Triple-A, he could find himself pitching in Queens sooner than he expected when the year started.
