49ers Coach Shares Bold Statement About Brandon Aiyuk
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

In the midst of ongoing speculation surrounding Brandon Aiyuk’s future with the San Francisco 49ers, the star wide receiver remains resolute in his desire for a long-term contract extension.

This sentiment was underscored by San Francisco’s head coach, Kyle Shanahan, during his recent address to the media at the NFL Annual Meeting.

Shanahan emphasized the team’s commitment to retaining the star wide receiver for the long haul, noting ongoing communication with Aiyuk’s representatives throughout the offseason, even encountering him during a vacation in Cabo.

“BA is doing good. Hopefully we’ll get this done sooner than later.”

Although negotiations are anticipated to be challenging for both parties, there is optimism about reaching an agreement before the summer concludes.

Aiyuk is poised to secure a significant contract extension this offseason, with talks of an offer exceeding $25 million annually. However, the 49ers remain cautious, recognizing that Aiyuk is entering the final year of his rookie contract.

While the team appears content with Aiyuk playing under his fifth-year option, reaching a deal is crucial for both the player’s career trajectory and the cohesion of the team, particularly with quarterback Brock Purdy.

Aiyuk and Purdy have established a strong connection since Purdy’s arrival in the league, with Aiyuk emerging as Purdy’s primary target during training camp. Their partnership has flourished, earning praise for their performances throughout the 2023 season.

Securing a new contract presents its challenges, but the 49ers’ management has a track record of successfully extending contracts with key homegrown talent.

Brandon Aiyuk, at 26, is coming off a stellar season in the NFL, where he amassed 1,342 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 16 games. Hailing from Rocklin, CA, Aiyuk boasted the highest yards per catch in the league last season (17.9) on just 75 receptions, earning him a spot on the All-Pro team.
