In the span of 24 hours, the Chicago Bears went from three quarterbacks to one.
After initial reports from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport suggested the Bears were planning to see how Justin Fields looked during warmups ahead of Sunday’s matchup with the New York Jets, the second-year QB was officially ruled out Sunday morning in favor of Trevor Siemian.
But according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Siemian reportedly injured his oblique, forcing the Bears to start 28-year-old journeyman Nathan Peterman, who was added to Chicago’s active roster Sunday morning.
Running back David Montgomery will be Chicago's emergency QB, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Perhaps best known for his performance against the then-San Diego Chargers when he was a member of the Buffalo Bills in 2017 in which he threw five interceptions in the first half, Peterman hasn’t started a game since 2018.
During his four-year career, Peterman has completed 71 of 135 passes (52.6 completion percentage) for 573 yards, three touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He has just a 1-3 record as a starting QB.
Fields suffered a dislocated left shoulder in last week’s 27-24 loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Siemian played in six games, starting four, for the New Orleans Saints last season. He lost all four starts.
